Klarna lets your guests split their prepaid reservation payment into installments — while you receive the full amount instantly, just like a standard card payment. It's a simple way to remove a common barrier to booking, without any extra risk for your restaurant.

Klarna is included in all plans. 

 

1. What is Klarna and why use it?

Offer flexible payment options to your guests, without impacting your cash flow.

Some guests are willing to dine at your restaurant but hesitate to pay the full amount upfront. With Klarna, they can split their payment into installments — while you still receive the full amount immediately upon confirmation, exactly as you would with a regular card payment.

At checkout, guests can choose between two Klarna options:

  • Pay over time — split into 3, 4, or 5 installments

  • Pay later — pay next month

Klarna also provides stronger chargeback protection: the vast majority of disputes are handled directly by Klarna, not by your restaurant.

 

2. How to activate Klarna

Activate or deactivate Klarna in just a few clicks from your back office.

Klarna is available for all restaurants with prepaid reservations above €100. To enable it, go to Settings > Revenue > ConfigurationAccess the page directly

From this same screen, you can also activate or deactivate AMEX as a payment method.

Pricing: 6% on Reserve · 4% on Manage · 3.5% on Grow (same as AMEX)

 

3. Troubleshooting & FAQs

Common issues

  • Klarna doesn't appear at checkout — Make sure Klarna is activated in Settings > Revenue > Configuration and that your prepaid amount is above €100.

  • I can't find the activation toggle — Check that you have the necessary admin rights on your Zenchef account. If the option isn't visible, contact your CSM.

  • Partial refund is not available for Klarna payments — Partial refunds are not supported for payments made via Klarna. Only full refunds can be processed. The following message will be displayed: "This payment has been done with Klarna. The partial refund is not available for this payment type. Please proceed to total refund."

FAQ

  • Who handles payment disputes with Klarna? — Klarna takes on the risk and manages the vast majority of chargebacks directly. Your restaurant is not involved in the dispute process.

  • When do I receive my payout? — You receive the full reservation amount immediately upon confirmation, regardless of how the guest chooses to repay Klarna.

  • Where can I activate or deactivate Klarna? — In Settings > Revenue > Configuration: direct link

  • Where can I manage AMEX? — From the exact same settings screen as Klarna.

  • Who is eligible for Klarna? — All Zenchef restaurants with prepaid reservations above €100, on Reserve, Manage, or Grow plans.

  • Can I issue a partial refund on a Klarna payment? — No, partial refunds are not available for Klarna payments. Only full refunds are supported.
